Our purpose
Our mission is to promote friendships among our members through social, educational, and philanthropic activities.
Our story
More than 50 years ago a group of women recognized the need to welcome new people to the North San Diego area, so they formed a Welcome Wagon.
Not long afterward, many members from the Del Mar Garden Club joined the Welcome Wagon. They and the new people to the area began doing activities together like poker, a game called Tripoli, and, of course, luncheons. Looking for a good deal for their luncheons, the women found that if they said they were "newcomers" they would get a better deal, and so the Newcomers Club of San Dieguito was born. (The name came from the San Dieguito River, which runs through Del Mar.)
Around 2000 the Newcomers Club of San Dieguito became so large that they split into two groups – the Newcomers Club of San Dieguito and Newcomers II (now Newcomers and Friends). At first, Newcomers Club of San Dieguito members stayed in the club for 4 years and then were invited to join Newcomers II. In 2005 members decided they didn’t want to change groups, so Newcomers II recruited their own members, and the Newcomers Club of San Dieguito kept growing.
By 2022 the club had grown so large that we stopped taking members. In 2023 the membership voted to form two clubs. The Newcomers Club of San Dieguito remained to welcome people who recently moved to the area. Those of us who were no longer "newcomers" formed the North Coast Social Club. And that's our story.
